Symmetry involves the evenness of the faceting and the proper proportioning of all parts of the stone. In other words, a lopsided or sloppy cut affects symmetry in a negative way.
Major symmetry faults:
- A table or culet badly off center.
- A girdle outline very out of round.
- A table not parallel to the girdle.
All these major symmetry faults lower the value of the diamond if they are obvious without magnification. However, it is rare that symmetry faults are so pronounced as to lower the value of the diamond.
